Pet-friendly rentals in Hilton Head are decided at three levels: the resort or complex, the company, and the owner of the home. A complex can allow pets while the owner says no, so the rule below is where to start, and the listing has the last word. Only rules we could confirm are here; a community that is not listed has none we could verify.
Sea Pines
The resort’s own program allows one dog under 50 pounds, and only in the homes and villas it marks as pet friendly. Other companies that rent in Sea Pines set their own rules.

A rental that takes dogs is only half the question: the island’s beaches have their own rules. They are the Town’s and apply at every public beach, and they change with the season, at the midday hours of 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. At all other hours a dog can be off the leash under voice control, in every season. Limits are common: one dog, a weight cap, or a list of breeds. The resort programs above publish theirs; ask any other company before you book.

Many homes add a fee that is not refunded, so it belongs in the total you compare, next to cleaning and taxes.

Ask whether the yard is fenced and how far the home is from a beach that allows dogs. Gated communities may have their own leash rules.
