Where Is Okatie, SC? Two Counties, One Zip Code
Okatie, SC, is not a town. It is an unincorporated area with no mayor or town hall, spread across the line between Beaufort County and Jasper County, roughly from I-95 east to the Chechessee River. It takes its name from the Okatee River, a tidal arm of Port Royal Sound, and it is an old name: the Okatie post office opened in 1889.
Okatie SC County: Beaufort and Jasper

Okatie or Bluffton SC?
Okatie or Bluffton SC is often a question about the mailing address, not a town line, since Okatie has no town government. Since the 1990s the Beaufort side has filled in with low-density neighborhoods and gated communities, while most of the shops, offices and light industry went up on the Jasper side along US 278. Several attempts to make Okatie a town have failed, and Bluffton, Hardeeville and Port Royal have each annexed pieces of it. For the town next door, see our Bluffton guide and Bluffton zip codes.
