When are liquor stores open in South Carolina?
Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm at the latest. South Carolina law forbids a liquor store to sell between 7pm and 9am (S.C. Code § 61-6-1500) and on Sunday or Christmas Day (§ 61-6-4160). That is state law, not the stores’ choice, so every liquor store on Hilton Head keeps the same short day and none opens on a Sunday. Other holidays are not restricted, and election days have not closed liquor stores since 2014.
Beer and wine follow a different rule (§ 61-4-120). To sell them to go on a Sunday, a store needs the state’s seven-day beer and wine permit, which is issued only where Sunday sales have been approved, and Beaufort County is on the SC Department of Revenue’s list. The island’s liquor stores run from Coligny to the north end, a mix of independent shops and two small local names: Rollers has three stores and Patel’s two. Most carry wine, spirits and craft beer, and the bigger shops add mixers, cigars and cheese, with staff who know their shelves.
