Is There a 24-Hour Pharmacy on Hilton Head?
No. There is no 24-hour pharmacy on Hilton Head Island, and none in Bluffton or Savannah either, whatever older listings say. The latest pharmacy counter on the island is Publix at Festival Centre, open until 9 p.m. on weekdays, then CVS on Mathews Drive, until 8. For over-the-counter medicine late at night, the CVS on Pope Avenue and the Walgreens at Island Crossing keep their stores open until midnight. After that, the only help is the emergency room at Hilton Head Medical Center.
On Sunday, the pharmacies open are both CVS stores, Publix at Festival Centre and Burke’s Main Street Pharmacy, which opens at 9. Neither Walgreens pharmacy opens on Sunday, and Hilton Head Pharmacy and Stephens are closed. Most chain pharmacies also close for half an hour at lunch, around 1:30.
Forgot a Prescription? Transfers on Vacation
To fill a prescription on vacation, call the island pharmacy nearest your rental and give it your home pharmacy’s name and phone number: it will transfer the prescription, usually within a few hours. A CVS or Walgreens customer can refill at the island store of the same chain from the app. For a new prescription after a clinic visit, ask the clinic to send it to the pharmacy that is open latest that day, or to Hilton Head Pharmacy for delivery.
Controlled medicines, such as some pain and ADHD prescriptions, are harder to transfer across state lines, so pack enough for the whole trip. If you feel too unwell to wait for a transfer, the Hilton Head urgent care clinics can examine you and write a new prescription.
Compounding and Medical Equipment
Three island pharmacies make compounded prescriptions: Stephens Compounding Pharmacy, which does nothing else, Burke’s and Hilton Head Pharmacy; the Kroger pharmacy compounds too. For medical equipment, Burke’s rents beach wheelchairs, power and manual wheelchairs, scooters, walkers and hospital beds, and supplies CPAP and oxygen. Our medical equipment rentals list has the companies that deliver to your rental and lets you book a wheelchair or scooter online.
For property managers and owners: list the nearest pharmacy for each property in the welcome book, with its Sunday hours, and point guests who forgot a prescription to Hilton Head Pharmacy’s free island delivery. Guests in the north-end communities have Burke’s, open on Sunday, and the Festival Centre Publix, open latest.
