Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf is the island’s big themed mini golf course, at 8 Marina Side Drive just off US 278 near mile marker 8.5. Two 18-hole courses wind over bridges, past streams and waterfalls and through a pirate village, and every hole has a plaque telling the story of a real pirate, so the round doubles as a history lesson for kids.

What the Courses Are Like

• The theme: skeletons guarding treasure, cannons on a wooden pier, a Treasure Cove arch, a waterfall with a pirate ship on top and a set of stocks for photos.

• The holes: a mix of easy and harder holes on both courses, so a family with a five-year-old and a teenager can play together.

• The grounds: shaded under tall pines and oaks, with clean restrooms, and gators and koi fish in the ponds that children point out.

Planning a Round

Spring break and summer mornings fill up with families, so start early or come near closing, when the course is lit at night. Most visitors play both courses; ask at the counter about a second round or an all-day pass. For a more golf-like round without the pirates, Legendary Golf is a few minutes away, and Adventure Cove adds an arcade.
