Hilton Head churches range from the two Catholic parishes and the big Presbyterian, Baptist and Methodist congregations on William Hilton Parkway to the historic Gullah churches on Beach City Road and the island’s synagogue. Many of the churches on Hilton Head Island are used to vacationers in the pews: in summer and at Christmas and Easter, a big share of every service is visitors. Below is every congregation on the island, grouped by tradition, with its address, phone and the churches that have their own page with service times.

Catholic Churches

Holy Family Catholic Church

The south-end parish on Pope Avenue near Coligny, with a Saturday vigil, three Sunday Masses (one in Spanish) and daily Mass. 24 Pope Avenue.

St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church

The north-end parish on Beach City Road, with four Sunday Masses, two Saturday vigils (one in Spanish) and two Masses most weekdays. 45 Beach City Road.

Community and Non-Denominational Churches

The non-denominational churches in Hilton Head are the island’s fastest-growing, with bands, children’s programmes and services you can watch online. Central Church and Hilton Head Island Community Church are the largest.

Central Church

A busy non-denominational church with a full band, Sundays at 9:30 and 11 a.m., Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. 975 William Hilton Parkway.

Hilton Head Island Community Church

Non-denominational, one Sunday service at 10 a.m. with a live band, streamed through its app. 860 William Hilton Parkway.

Grace Community Church

A friendly community church on the sound side, Sundays at 9 and 11 a.m., with a nursery families come back for. 450 Spanish Wells Road.

Christian Renewal Church

A lively church off Gardner Drive with a café and a children’s ministry that checks kids in at the door. 95 Gardner Drive.

Resurrection Christian Community Church

A small, close-knit congregation on Spanish Wells Road built around Bible teaching. 296 Spanish Wells Road.

Harbour Community Church

A community church on William Hilton Parkway at the north end of the island. 435 William Hilton Parkway.

Presbyterian Churches

Looking for a Hilton Head Presbyterian church? There are three. First Presbyterian on William Hilton Parkway is the largest and belongs to the Presbyterian Church (USA). Providence Presbyterian is closest to the south-end resorts, and Christ Redeemer Presbyterian is a Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) congregation.

First Presbyterian Church

Presbyterian Church (USA): a 9 a.m. contemporary service and a 10:30 traditional one with choir, both livestreamed. 540 William Hilton Parkway.

Providence Presbyterian Church

On the south end, with an 8:30 service outdoors when the weather allows, 10:30 traditional and 5 p.m. contemporary. 171 Cordillo Parkway.

Christ Redeemer Presbyterian Church

A PCA congregation on the north end that visiting Reformed Presbyterians seek out. 233 William Hilton Parkway.

Baptist Churches

First Baptist, near Coligny, is the Baptist church most visitors find. North Island Baptist and Bible Baptist are both on Main Street at the north end. The island’s historic Black Baptist churches are in the next section.

First Baptist Church of Hilton Head Island

Bible Baptist Church

Historic Gullah Churches

Hilton Head’s Gullah families have worshipped in these congregations for generations, in the neighbourhoods off Beach City Road, Squire Pope Road and Mathews Drive on the north end of the island. First African Baptist stands near Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park, the site of the town freed people founded on the island during the Civil War. First African Baptist Church

Queen Chapel AME Church

An African Methodist Episcopal church on Beach City Road, family-oriented and welcoming. 114 Beach City Road.

Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church

A Baptist church on Squire Pope Road known for its live music and joyful services. 382 Squire Pope Road.

Central Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church

A Spirit-filled Baptist church on Mathews Drive with a choir that sets the room alight. 161 Mathews Drive.

Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopal and Anglican

St. Andrew By-the-Sea is the island’s United Methodist church. There are two Lutheran churches: Island Lutheran (Missouri Synod) at the north end and Christ Lutheran mid-island. The Hilton Head Island Episcopal church is All Saints on Meeting Street, and there are two Anglican churches: St. Luke’s on Pope Avenue and the smaller Church of the Redeemer, which uses the 1928 prayer book.

St. Andrew By-the-Sea United Methodist Church

United Methodist, on Pope Avenue next to Holy Family: 9 a.m. traditional, 11:09 a.m. modern, and a Friday soup kitchen. 20 Pope Avenue.

Island Lutheran Church

Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, Sundays at 8:30 and 11 a.m. with Bible classes in between. 4400 Main Street.

Christ Lutheran Church and Preschool

A Lutheran congregation mid-island where full-time and seasonal residents mix, with a preschool. 829 William Hilton Parkway.

All Saints Episcopal Church

The island’s Episcopal church, a small, family-friendly parish on Meeting Street. 3001 Meeting Street.

St. Luke’s Anglican Church

An Anglican church on Pope Avenue near Coligny with blended music at 10 a.m., coffee after and a bookstore. 50 Pope Avenue.

Anglican Church of the Redeemer

A small Anglican congregation that worships from the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. 1 Mathews Drive, Suite 101.

Church of Christ, Adventist, Latter-day Saints and Christian Science

The Hilton Head church of Christ meets at 23 Bow Circle, near the south end of the island. The Seventh-day Adventist church is on Park Lane and worships on Saturday. The Latter-day Saints meetinghouse is on Meeting Street, and the Christian Science Society is a few doors from the church of Christ on Bow Circle.

Hilton Head Synagogue: Congregation Beth Yam

Congregation Beth Yam is the Hilton Head synagogue, a Reform congregation of around 200 families from Hilton Head and Bluffton, on Meeting Street at the north end. It holds regular services and a full calendar of events, and visitors are welcome; check its site for the service calendar.

Going to Church on Vacation

  • Service times: churches change them for Christmas, Easter and the summer, so check the church’s own site or call before you go. Our church pages list each one’s current times.

  • Easter and Christmas Eve: the big churches add services and still fill up. Arrive early, and expect the parking lots to be full.

  • Close to Coligny and the south-end rentals: Holy Family, St. Andrew By-the-Sea and St. Luke’s are all on Pope Avenue, First Baptist is on South Forest Beach Drive, and Providence Presbyterian is on Cordillo Parkway.

  • An evening service: Providence Presbyterian has one at 5 p.m. on Sundays, and Central Church on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

  • Watching from your rental: First Presbyterian, Providence Presbyterian, First Baptist, Central Church, HHICC, Grace, Island Lutheran and St. Andrew all stream their Sunday services.

  • What to wear: resort-casual is normal at almost every church on the island.
