Spring Island is a 3,000-acre sea island in Beaufort County with an Okatie mailing address, laid out around its land rather than over it. More than 1,100 acres belong to the Spring Island Trust, a nonprofit founded in 1990 that keeps them as a preserve forever, and about 30 miles of trails run through the woods and along the marsh. The community counts roughly 400 homesites in all, so even the largest lots feel private.
