Okatie Creek Golf Club is Sun City Hilton Head’s original course, opened in 1995 and designed by Mark McCumber, who calls it classic and traditional. It winds through Southern pines and marsh for 6,719 yards from the Red tees at a par of 72, and it was regrassed in a 2025 renovation. Tee times are for Sun City residents and the guests who play with them, so most visitors will book one of the public courses around Bluffton instead.

Course Handicap = Handicap Index × (Slope ÷ 113) + (Course Rating − Par), rounded to a whole number. Who Can Play Okatie Creek
Sun City runs its three courses for residents. The club’s tee-time page says resident tee times are not open to the public, and the 2026 rate sheet lists resident golf plans plus a single rate for a resident and an accompanied guest. There is no public tee-time booking online. If you are visiting someone who lives in Sun City, they can bring you as a guest. About the Okatie Creek Course
McCumber routed Okatie Creek along the natural contours of the land, and the club is proud of its greens. The tees are set up so players can choose to “attack or relax”: it is rated 72.3 with a slope of 128 from the Red tees and runs down to 4,114 yards from the Orange tees, with combination tees in between. It is the gentler of Sun City’s two full-length courses; Hidden Cypress is longer and rated harder.
The 2025 Okatie Creek Renovation
Troon, which manages Sun City’s golf, started a six-month renovation in spring 2025. Every green was stripped and regrassed with TifEagle, the fairways and tee boxes were regrassed with Celebration, and new drainage went into the fairways. The practice facility grew by about half, to room for up to 50 hitting stations plus separate putting, chipping and bunker greens.
New greens take time to settle, so ask the pro shop how the course is playing before you go.
Sun City’s Other Courses and Public Golf Nearby
Sun City’s other two courses are Hidden Cypress Golf Club, McCumber’s second course here, and Argent Lakes Golf Course, an 18-hole executive course. The clubhouse at Okatie Creek also has a restaurant.

The listing covers the clubhouse restaurant as well as the course, and about half of the reviews we read are about food: a holiday buffet and a group dinner are praised, and one regular says the burgers have shrunk. On the golf, an older review calls it a fun, scoreable course with fast greens. The most detailed recent one, from January 2026, says the greens were hard and patchy and the bunkers short of sand after the 2025 renovation.
