Where it is
Get directionsSprout Momma is a bakery and restaurant at 93 Arrow Road on the south end of the island, in the building that was Signe’s Heaven Bound Bakery for 50 years. Kim Tavino started Sprout Momma in 2008 selling bread at farmers markets and catering around Hilton Head and Bluffton, and her family took over the Arrow Road building when Signe’s closed. Her son Ryan Fennessey runs the kitchen and her daughter Abby Fennessey runs the front of the house. People search for it as Sprout Mama too.
What to Order at Sprout Momma
Bread is the foundation: flour-dusted sourdough boules, croissants and a pastry case up front with cinnamon rolls, muffins and homemade toaster-style pastries. At lunch the chicken salad croissant is the sandwich reviewers rave about, followed by the Dagwood stacked on house sourdough, the Reuben and a grouper sandwich. The pizza has a thin, crisp sourdough crust that lets the toppings lead, and the salads come with house dressings. Breakfast brings avocado toast, yogurt bowls and egg dishes.
Breads and Brews: the Porch, the Bar and Live Music
The sign says Breads & Brews, and there is a bar with beer and wine. Most people sit outside on the covered porch or at tables beside the tomato plants, and there is live music on some days. It feels like a locals’ place, a few minutes from Pope Avenue and Coligny, and it is easy to make it a regular stop on a week-long stay. You can eat in, take your order to go or have it delivered.
