The Hilton Head Island Gullah Celebration is a month-long showcase of the heritage and history of the Gullah people on Hilton Head Island. It fills February with events, and the Southeast Tourism Society has named it one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast.
The Gullah Geechee have lived on the island for generations, and their food, music, language and faith are part of what makes Hilton Head what it is. Our guide to Gullah Geechee culture on Hilton Head covers the history and where to learn more the rest of the year, and the one-day Fish and Grits Music Festival in October carries on the same mission.
