South Beach Racquet Club is a family-run tennis and pickleball club at the south end of Sea Pines Plantation, a short walk from South Beach Marina and the Salty Dog Cafe. Don and Rachel Sigmon opened it in 1986, and they still own it. It has Har-Tru clay tennis courts, a big pickleball setup, a pro shop, and a viewing deck lined with rocking chairs.

It is not part of the resort and not the same place as the Sea Pines Racquet Club near Harbour Town. It is open to visitors: you do not need to own property in Sea Pines or join to book a court. See tennis in Sea Pines for both clubs side by side.

Tennis Courts, Fees and Lessons

The tennis courts are Har-Tru clay, and two are lit for evening play. A court is $35 an hour in the daytime (from 8:30 a.m.), and playing under the lights adds $15 an hour. A court that nobody claims is rebooked seven minutes after the hour, so be on time. The club rents a ball machine ($55 an hour including the court, afternoons only), demo racquets and ball hoppers ($5 an hour each), and strings racquets from $25.

Adult clinics run weekday mornings: a fitness-focused hour at 8 a.m. ($35) and a longer drill-and-play session after it ($45). Private lessons were $80 an hour. Juniors have groups from age 4 up to a high-performance group for tournament players, year-round.

Pickleball

The club lists 12 hard courts and 8 Har-Tru courts for pickleball, with a full-time pickleball pro. A court is $30 an hour and paddles and balls rent for $10. Round robins cost $20 for visitors and run weekday mornings from 8 a.m., on weekend mornings, and three evenings a week for 3.5-rated players and up. There are skill clinics most weekday mornings, from a first-timer class on Mondays up to advanced drills. The club says times change, so call to confirm.

Booking a Court

Call the club at 843-671-2215, or reserve through its online court booking. In season, book ahead. For a long stay, the club sells memberships: tennis members play with no court fees, and pickleball members get cheaper court time, with a winter-only option from November to March.

Getting There and Nearby

The club is on South Sea Pines Drive near the southern tip of the island, inside the Sea Pines gate. If you are not staying in Sea Pines, you pay the gate fee on the way in, $10 per standard vehicle. It sits in the same corner as South Beach Marina Village, with its shops and restaurants, and South Beach access to the sand is close by, so a morning match and an afternoon on the beach is an easy day.
