The Salty Dog Cafe at South Beach Marina

The Salty Dog Cafe Hilton Head is the open-air restaurant at South Beach Marina, at the southern tip of Sea Pines. It has been feeding people on the dock since 1987, and the Salty Dog, Sea Pines, is the one most people mean when they say they are going to the Salty Dog in Hilton Head: tables on a wooden deck under big umbrellas, with the boats a few steps away.

It is casual and busy, and it serves all day, from breakfast through dinner. Seating is first come, first served. The Salty Dog Cafe does not take reservations, so on summer evenings expect a wait and plan a walk around the marina while you have it.

The Salty Dog Cafe Menu

The Salty Dog Cafe menu leans on locally sourced seafood, crab legs and salads, and the hushpuppies come with a spoonful of house-made honey butter. Breakfast runs from 8 to 11 a.m., then lunch and dinner carry on into the evening, and there is a kids menu. Specials change with the season, and the cafe keeps its current Salty Dog Hilton Head menu on its own site (the menu button above), so we do not repeat prices here.

The Salty Dog in Hilton Head: Deck, Marina and Happy Hour

Most of the seats are outside on the dock, with some indoor tables for hot or wet days. Happy hour runs from 4 to 6 p.m. The marina village around it has shops and places to walk, so a Salty Dog marina stop is easy to stretch into an afternoon. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant itself, despite the name.

The Salty Dog Ice Cream Shop and the T-Shirt Factory

Two neighbors in the same marina village carry the name: the Salty Dog Ice Cream Shop, for dessert after dinner, and the Salty Dog Cafe store, the T-Shirt Shop, for the shirts. They are separate counters from the cafe, so you can visit either without a table.

Where Is the Salty Dog Cafe?

The Salty Dog Cafe is at 232 South Sea Pines Drive, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, at South Beach Marina, inside the Sea Pines gate on the south end of HHI. If you are not staying in Sea Pines, the gate fee is $10 per day for a standard car. The South Beach area also has a beach walk and other places to eat; see South Beach. The brand also runs the Downtown Salty Dog on Target Road, mid-island, outside the gate, which is a different restaurant with its own menu. The Wreck of the Salty Dog, the cafe’s overflow restaurant on the same marina, has been closed since 2024 for the renovation.
