Salty Dog Ice Cream at South Beach Marina

The Salty Dog Ice Cream Shop is the ice cream counter in the Salty Dog complex at South Beach Marina, in Sea Pines. It belongs to the Salty Dog Cafe next door, and it is the stop most people make on the way out rather than the reason they came — which does not stop the queue reaching the boardwalk on an August evening.

The Salty Dog Ice Cream Menu and Flavors

The list runs to forty-six flavors, served in a bowl, a cone or a waffle cone, in three sizes. Not all of them are in the case at once: the shop says availability changes by the day and by the week through the season, so treat the menu as a rotation rather than a promise.

The spread goes from the ones a child will actually order — vanilla, chocolate, cookie dough, mint chip, cotton candy — through the ones worth crossing the marina for, like key lime pie, maple bacon, lavender, raspberry habanero and butter pecan, to seasonal turns such as pumpkin, egg nog and gingerbread. Toppings are the usual bar of sprinkles, hot fudge, Oreo pieces, gummy bears and wet walnuts.

Non-Dairy, Vegan and Sorbet

Eight of the flavors are non-dairy and vegan, all made with coconut milk: vanilla, chocolate, coffee, pineapple, strawberry, Oreo, avocado and cherry vanilla. There are two sorbets, mango and lemon. That is an unusually long non-dairy list for a beach ice cream counter, and it is the reason to come here rather than settle for one token option somewhere else.

What Is Salty Dog Ice Cream?

It is the Salty Dog’s own ice cream shop, part of the same family of businesses as the cafe, the stores and the T-shirts, all based at South Beach Marina. The operator has it as voted best ice cream on Hilton Head Island in 2025. You can email flavor suggestions to the shop, which is the sort of thing a chain does not do.

There is no Salty Dog ice cream factory. The Factory people are thinking of is the Salty Dog T-Shirt Factory on Arrow Road, which is clothing, not ice cream; it is covered on the Salty Dog store page along with the T-Shirt Shop at the marina and the online shops. The ice cream is scooped here, at the marina.

Getting There

South Beach Marina is at the southern end of Sea Pines, which is gated. Unless you own property there, are a resort guest or have a Sea Pines rental booking, the gate fee is $10 per day for a standard vehicle; the guest pass office page has the rest. The shop is in the marina village along with Jake’s Cargo, and the beach is just behind it. Current hours are in the card at the top of this page.
