Peddling Pelican is a bike and beach-gear rental company with its shop at 71 Lighthouse Road, inside the Shops at Sea Pines Center. Most of its business is delivery — bikes, chairs and baby gear dropped at the house you are renting — but you can also book a store pick-up and collect at the counter.

The shop is inside the Sea Pines gate, about half a mile from Harbour Town by the operator’s own reckoning, and it delivers well beyond Sea Pines.

Bikes and What Comes With Them

The fleet is the usual island mix: single-speed and three-speed adult cruisers, children’s bikes in several sizes, trikes for anyone who would rather not balance, and tandems. For small children there are rear-mounted infant seats and tow-behind kiddie carts.

One thing to check when you book: baskets and locks are add-ons here, not standard. That is worth a moment’s thought, because a lock is not optional in practice — bikes are expected to be locked on the Sea Pines trails.

More Than Bikes

The company advertises more than sixty products, and the non-bike half is what sets it apart from the two walk-up bike shops in Sea Pines. Beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, boogie boards and games go out on the same delivery, and so does baby equipment: single and double jogging strollers, highchairs and booster seats. For a family flying in with hand luggage, that is one van instead of three errands.

Delivery, Pick-Up and Booking

There are three ways to book. Delivery brings everything to your villa or house and collects it at the end of the stay. Store pick-up has it waiting at the Sea Pines Center counter. The third route is a booking coupon through a vacation-rental company, which is how a lot of guests end up here without choosing the company themselves.

Delivery reaches well past the gate: Palmetto Dunes, Shipyard, North and South Forest Beach, Singleton Beach, Burke’s Beach, Folly Field and Port Royal as well as Sea Pines. Prices are not published, and neither is a delivery minimum, so the booking system or a phone call is the only way to get a figure.

Riding in Sea Pines

Two rules set by the CSA rather than the shop. E-bikes, pedal-assist included, are not allowed on the Sea Pines leisure trails, and Peddling Pelican does not say whether it rents them, so ask for a standard bike. And the trails are for property owners and their guests, which is the case for renting inside the gate at all. Getting to the Shop

The Shops at Sea Pines Center is just inside the main Greenwood Drive gate. Unless you own property in Sea Pines, are a resort guest or have a rental booking there, the gate fee is $10 per day for a standard vehicle, and day visitors may not ride in on a bicycle; the guest pass office page has the rest. If you are having bikes delivered, none of that applies — the van comes to you.
