Hilton Head Toys in Harbour Town is the toy shop in the row below the lighthouse, at 147 Lighthouse Road, among the Harbour Town shops. It is a proper browse-the-window toy store — boxed games and puzzles stacked to the ceiling, stuffed animals, beach toys and books — rather than a souvenir rack with a few toys on it.

It is the obvious stop in Harbour Town on a rained-off afternoon, and it is two minutes from the Gregg Russell playground, which is the other thing that keeps small children happy here.

What It Stocks

Toys, puzzles, games, stuffed animals, remote-control cars, beach toys, books, dolls, arts and crafts and balloons. The company behind it lists the usual big names — Mattel, LEGO, Playmobil, Breyer, Calico Critters, Melissa & Doug, Hot Wheels, Barbie — so a child who wants a specific thing has a fair chance of finding it without a drive off the island.

Beach toys are the practical reason most visitors end up in here: buckets, spades and floats within walking distance of the harbour, instead of a trip to a big store mid-island.

Three Shops With Confusingly Similar Names

This one is Hilton Head Toys at Harbour Town, 147 Lighthouse Road, inside Sea Pines, on 843-785-4311. There is a second Hilton Head Toys at Coligny Plaza on North Forest Beach Drive, mid-island and outside the gate, with its own phone number and hours. And there was a separate business called Harbour Town Toys, out on William Hilton Parkway, which has closed — it was never in Harbour Town.

Worth sorting out before you drive: the Coligny store is a twenty-minute drive and no gate fee, and this one is inside a gate you may have to pay at.

Getting There

Harbour Town is at the south end of Sea Pines, behind a gate. Unless you own property there, are a resort guest or have a Sea Pines rental booking, the gate fee is $10 per day for a standard vehicle; the guest pass office page has the rest. Park in the Harbour Town lot and the shop is in the row behind the lighthouse. Most of the Harbour Town shops open at 10 a.m. and closing times vary through the year, so call ahead if you are making a special trip.
