Sea Pines security is the Safety and Security Department of the CSA, the association that runs the community’s roads and gates. Its officers staff both gates around the clock, run the pass window at the Welcome Center, patrol the roads and answer a dispatch line that never closes. For anything from a dead car battery to an alligator in the driveway, 843-671-7170 is the number to save.

Who Sea Pines Security Officers Are

The officers are armed and on patrol 24 hours a day. They are deputized by SLED, the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division, which gives them the same power of arrest as a sheriff’s deputy inside Sea Pines. They run radar, write traffic tickets and respond to complaints, and they work with county, state and federal agencies when a case calls for it. So when a patrol car pulls you over for speeding on Sea Pines Drive, it is a real citation.

What to Call Security About

• Incidents and break-ins. Report a burglary or anything suspicious to dispatch, day or night.

• Car trouble. Officers can help with minor problems such as jump-starting a battery, and can take a report after a small collision on Sea Pines roads.

• Lost and found. Anything found in Sea Pines is turned in to security, so call dispatch if you left something behind.

• Wildlife. Report an alligator that approaches people or pets, follows anglers, or turns up away from the water, and anyone feeding one. Owners can also ask the department’s full-time wildlife officer to remove a nuisance animal at no charge, but officers will not collect an animal you trapped yourself.

• Empty houses. Owners going away for a few days or a few months can ask to be put on the free house-check list; officers check doors and the outside of the house at random times.

Every patrol car carries a defibrillator, and there are more at the CSA office, the Gate Pass Office, the Community Center and the maintenance building. In a medical emergency, a fire or a crime in progress, call 911 first. Staying Safe Around the Lagoons

The CSA asks everyone to assume there is an alligator in every pond and lagoon. Keep at least 60 feet away, about four car lengths, keep children and dogs back from the edge, and never feed one, which is also illegal. Swimming and wading in Sea Pines waterways is not allowed. If you fish or crab, do not throw bait or fish scraps back in the water.
