Off The Hook Fishing Charters is Captain Brian Vaughn's guide service, running light-tackle trips through the creeks, flats and sounds around Hilton Head since 2005. Brian grew up on the island, and the boats are small, built for light tackle. Trips run from 2 to 8 hours for individuals, families, corporate groups and wedding parties, and the fishing license, rods, bait, tackle and a cooler with ice are all included. Customers praise captains who find big redfish and sharks and who coach beginners and experienced anglers alike.
The Boats
18-foot Hells Bay skiff: the shallow-water boat for sight-fishing the flats.
22-foot Pathfinder: a roomier bay boat for inshore and nearshore trips.
25-foot Hells Bay Estero: the largest of the three, for nearshore water.
Each boat takes up to four anglers. A bigger group books two or three boats side by side, for up to 12 people. Choose the boat, trip length, date and start time on the booking page; a 3% fee is added when you pay by credit card.
What You Can Fish For
The trips cover inshore, flats, nearshore, spin and fly fishing. Guest reviews mention big redfish and sharks most; ask the captain what is running when you book. Fly fishermen who want a captain who does only fly fishing should look at LoCo Fly Charters.
Finding the Dock
Off The Hook is listed at 68 Helmsman Way, on the Palmetto Bay Marina side of the south end. Several charters across the country use the name Off The Hook; this is the Hilton Head one. Palmetto Bay Marina has the rest of the dock, and the other captains are in our guide to Hilton Head fishing charters.
