Scooter Rentals on Hilton Head Island

Mopeds and e-scooters are hard to find and kept off the pathways. Here is what to rent instead.
Can You Rent a Scooter or Moped on Hilton Head?
Not really. We could not find an island shop that rents mopeds or motor scooters, and electric stand-up scooters are not allowed on the Town’s pathways, which is where most visitors ride. What the island rents instead is bikes and electric bikes, by the day or week, usually delivered to your door, plus golf carts and low-speed vehicles for the roads.
Scooter and E-Bike Rules on the Pathways
The Town’s code keeps motor vehicles off its public pathways.
E-scooters, other electric ride-on gear and golf carts are not allowed on Town pathways.
Class 1 and class 2 e-bikes are allowed: the motor stops helping at 20 mph at most.
Shops that rent bikes hand out the Town’s pathway safety pamphlet. Read it before you ride.
Gated communities such as Sea Pines and Palmetto Dunes have their own trail rules, so check with your rental or the community before riding anything with a motor there.
Rent an E-Bike Instead
A bike or e-bike covers the island’s flat pathways as easily as a scooter would, and it is allowed on them. Both of these have their own pages, and more companies are on Hilton Head bike rentals.

Golf Carts and LSVs
For something with a motor, rent a street-legal golf cart or a low-speed vehicle (LSV). They go on the roads, not the pathways, and several companies deliver them. Our golf cart rentals guide covers who rents them and the rules for driving one.
Mobility Scooter Rentals
Looking for a mobility scooter for someone who cannot walk far? Medical equipment companies rent mobility scooters, power wheelchairs and beach wheelchairs, delivered to your rental. See beach wheelchairs and mobility rentals.

Hilton Head has more than 60 miles of bike trails, plus a beach you can ride at low tide. Maps, path rules, e-bike rules, and where to rent or book a tour.
