Where Tanger Outlets Hilton Head Is

Despite the name, Tanger Outlets Hilton Head is in Bluffton, not on the island. Both centers are on US 278 (Fording Island Road), a short drive west of the bridge: Tanger 1 at 1256 Fording Island Road and Tanger 2 at 1414 Fording Island Road. The two share one phone number, (843) 837-5410. Coming from the island, it is the first big shopping stop after the bridge, and it is the outlet mall near Hilton Head that most visitors mean when they ask where the outlets are.

Tanger 1 and Tanger 2

Both are open-air centers with free parking. Shoppers describe Tanger 2 as the more relaxing of the pair, with shade trees, grass and covered walkways, and it is the larger of the two and the one with the bigger crowds of reviews. Tanger 1 is smaller and more compact, with tighter parking where cars and shoppers share the same lanes. If you only have time for one, most people choose Tanger 2; if you are working through a shopping list, plan on both, because the lineups are different. What You Will Find at the Outlets

The draw is brand-name outlet stores. Athletic and outdoor brands such as Nike, Adidas, New Balance and Under Armour, clothing from Banana Republic Factory, American Eagle, Old Navy and Polo Ralph Lauren, and handbags and accessories from names like Coach, Kate Spade and Michael Kors have all been listed here. Store lineups change through the year, so check the directory for the brand you are after before you drive over.

There are local shops among the national brands too. At Tanger 2, the Salty Dog T-Shirt Factory sells island T-shirts and souvenirs, and The Storybook Shoppe is a children’s bookshop with toys. Palmetto Moon, a Southern gifts and clothing store, is by the Old Navy.

Food at Tanger Outlets

You do not need to leave the outlets to eat. The restaurants listed for the two centers include Olive Garden, Chipotle, Panera Bread and LongHorn Steakhouse, which cover a sit-down dinner and a quick lunch between stores. Planning a Trip to the Outlets

Outlet hours vary by store and by season, so check Tanger’s site for the day you are going. A morning visit before the heat and the lunchtime crowds is the easiest way to do both centers. Tanger is also one of the best rainy-day choices from the island, since you can park, walk between the stores under the covered walkways and be back across the bridge in minutes.
