Hilton Head Course Handicap Calculator
Pick a course, pick a tee, and enter your Handicap Index to see how many strokes you get. Below it, see your strokes at every Hilton Head Island and Bluffton course side by side, so a group can sort out shots before the trip. It works for the 29 courses we have full tee ratings for, public and private.
Your strokes at every Hilton Head course
The same Handicap Index gets a different number of strokes at each course, because ratings and slopes differ. Enter your index above and pick the kind of tee you play; the list re-sorts with the most strokes (the hardest course for you) first.

Back = the longest tee a course lists, forward = the shortest, middle = the tee halfway between. Ratings and slopes come from each course’s scorecard and can change, so confirm with the club before you play.
How to calculate a course handicap
This golf handicap calculator uses the standard formula: Course Handicap = Handicap Index × (Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Course Rating − Par), rounded to a whole number. Course rating and slope are printed on each course’s scorecard, one pair per tee.
For example, a 14.2 index from the back tees at Harbour Town Golf Links (75.5 / 146, par 71) is 14.2 × 146 ÷ 113 + (75.5 − 71) = 22.8, which rounds to 23 strokes. The same golfer from the back tees at Old South Golf Links (72.7 / 141, par 72) gets 18.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a course handicap?
A course handicap is the number of strokes you get at a particular course from a particular set of tees. It comes from your Handicap Index, adjusted for how hard that tee is: Course Handicap = Handicap Index × (Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Course Rating − Par), rounded to a whole number.
Why is my course handicap different at each Hilton Head golf course?
Because the courses are rated differently. Slope Rating measures how much harder a course plays for an average golfer than for a scratch golfer, and Course Rating is the score a scratch golfer is expected to shoot. For a 14.2 index, the back tees at Harbour Town Golf Links give 23 strokes and the back tees at Old South Golf Links give 18.
Where do I get a Handicap Index?
From your golf association or a scoring app that keeps a handicap record. If you don’t have one, ask the pro shop at the course you’re playing, since many can help set up a temporary handicap for the day.
Is this my playing handicap for a match or tournament?
Not always. This is your course handicap before any competition allowance. Some formats, such as fourball or scramble, apply a percentage of it, so check the rules for your game or event.
Which tees should I choose?
Use the tees you normally play. The “strokes at every course” list lets you compare back, middle or forward tees across the island, and switch between men’s and women’s tees.
