The Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hall opened in 1991 on the site of a former Civil War garrison, and was named to Golf Digest’s list of America’s Top 10 New Courses that same year. In 2024, it was named Golf Course of the Year by both the Lowcountry and South Carolina golf course owners associations. It’s one of two courses at Palmetto Hall, alongside the Robert Cupp Course. A Top-10 Debut on a Civil War Site
Arthur Hills laid out the course on land that once held a Civil War-era garrison, and it made an immediate mark on opening in 1991 — Golf Digest named it one of America’s Top 10 New Courses that year. More than three decades later, both the Lowcountry Golf Course Owners Association and the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association named it their 2024 Course of the Year, recognition for how well the layout has held up.
