Visiting from out of town

Visitors can use the building, the Wi-Fi and the reading rooms, which makes it a dry place to spend an hour on a rainy vacation day. Borrowing needs a card, so ask at the desk what a short-stay guest can get. For the island's other mailing and records offices, see the Hilton Head post offices.

The Heritage Library Foundation

The Heritage Library Foundation, on Corpus Christi Place, is a different kind of library: a private non-profit that keeps Hilton Head Island and Lowcountry history and helps people trace their family trees. It has access to genealogy services including Ancestry, Fold3, American Ancestors and HeritageQuest, and is affiliated with the LDS Family History Library. The Foundation also owns Fort Mitchel in Hilton Head Plantation and the Zion Chapel of Ease Cemetery and Baynard Mausoleum. For borrowing books, use the county branch above.
