The Island Funeral Home on Hilton Head Island
The Island Funeral Home & Crematory was the first funeral home on Hilton Head Island. Allen and Nancy Richardson opened it in 1981; before then, island families had to make arrangements in Beaufort or Savannah. In 1983 it added its own crematory, the island’s first, and today it is part of Altogether, a national group of funeral homes. The Lowcountry-style building on Cardinal Road, at the north end of the island, has chapels, a reception room for gatherings after a service and rooms for private viewings.
It handles burials, cremations, and funeral and memorial services, held in its own chapels or at a church or club, and arranges military honors for veterans. Certified celebrants can lead a personal service for families who want one, and for Jewish families there is a Tahara room and kosher catering for the reception. Families can make arrangements in person or online, and plan ahead with a pre-need plan.
