Lowes Bluffton, SC: the Nearest to Hilton Head

There is no Lowe’s on Hilton Head Island. The one that serves it is in Bluffton at 35 Malphrus Road, off Fording Island Road (US 278), about 20 minutes past the bridges and next to a PetSmart. It carries the full range: appliances, flooring, paint, lawn and garden supplies and the plumbing, electrical and repair parts for a home project. Allow most of an hour for the round trip from mid-island, longer in summer traffic.

The store is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, so it is open when the island hardware stores have closed. For a part, a key or a tool, the island stores are closer: Ace Hardware at the north end and Grayco at the south end both open on Sunday. All the options are in our Hilton Head hardware store guide, and the other big-box store is the Home Depot in Bluffton.

What Shoppers Say

Reviewers single out staff in flooring and the garden department who planned a project with them and helped load heavy items, and say the selection is good for repairs and replacements. The complaints are about finding someone to help, missing prices and cluttered aisles, and appliance deliveries and installations that went wrong.

For property managers and owners: Lowe’s is the place for a replacement appliance, new flooring or garden supplies between guests, and it opens at 6 a.m. For filters, bulbs, batteries and keys on a changeover day, the island stores are faster.
