Spring break on Hilton Head is a family beach week, not a college party scene. Families come from early March to mid-April, whenever their own schools let out, and the busiest stretch in 2027 should be the last week of March and the first week of April, around Easter on March 28. Expect warm days for biking and the beach, ocean water still too cool for most swimmers, and rentals, bikes and tee times that book up early.
When Is Spring Break on Hilton Head?
There is no single spring break week. Visitors arrive on their home districts’ calendars, which fall anywhere from early March to mid-April, and many districts plan their break around Easter. Beaufort County’s own schools are out Monday, April 12 to Friday, April 16, 2027, which is also RBC Heritage week, the island’s busiest week of the year. If your dates are flexible, early March is the quietest choice.

What to pack: shorts and T-shirts for the day, a light jacket and long pants for the evening, and sunscreen. The spring sun is strong even when the air is cool.
Spring Break Events and Easter
St. Patrick’s Day Parade. South Carolina’s oldest St. Patrick’s parade marches down Pope Avenue on a Sunday in mid-March.
Hilton Head Wine & Food Festival. Tastings and dinners from late March into early April; the 2027 festival opens March 25.
Easter. Easter Sunday is March 28, 2027. Restaurants and resorts across the island serve Easter brunch.
RBC Heritage. The PGA Tour plays Harbour Town Golf Links April 12 to 18, 2027. It is a great week for golf fans and the most crowded week to visit.
Things to Do on Spring Break
Spring is the best season for being outdoors on the island. Ride the flat bike paths and the hard sand at low tide, take a dolphin tour or a kayak trip through the marsh, climb the Harbour Town Lighthouse, and spend a morning at the Coastal Discovery Museum. Younger children like the Sandbox, an interactive children’s museum. On a cool day, a round of mini golf or a fishing trip fills the afternoon.

Book the rental first. Spring break weeks fill months ahead, and Heritage week fills even earlier.
Reserve bikes and tours early. Bike shops deliver to your door, but the best weeks sell out.
Bring the dog if you like. Dogs can be on the beach at any time of day through March 31. From April 1 they must be on a leash from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Watch for the turtle season. Sea turtle nesting starts May 1, so beach lights-out rules do not apply on spring break.
Look for deals in early March. Rates and crowds are lowest before the first big spring break weeks.
