May River Tides
The May River has some of the biggest tides in the area. At Old Town Bluffton the water rises and falls close to 8 feet on an average day and more than 11 feet on the biggest tides of the year, around the new and full moon. High tide at Old Town comes about an hour later than on Hilton Head’s ocean beaches, because the tide takes time to work up the river. Lower down, at Brighton Beach near the river’s mouth, it comes about 30 minutes sooner than at Old Town; pick it in the location menu.
