Houses and Townhomes for Rent in Bluffton
The managers above list single-family houses and townhomes across Bluffton’s neighborhoods, inside the gated communities and out, and several also rent in Okatie and Hardeeville. A few communities are built to rent: New River Forest is a neighborhood of three- and four-bedroom houses for rent, and Indigo Cove rents three-bedroom townhomes with fenced yards (both are on our apartments page). Inside a gated community, ask how a tenant gets a gate pass and whether the community sets a minimum lease.
If you work on Hilton Head, drive the commute at rush hour before you sign: the bridges on US 278 are the only road onto the island, and a house out along SC 170 can add a good while to the drive in season.
Renting in Sun City Hilton Head
Sun City Hilton Head, the 55-and-over community off SC 170, rents by the season or the year and never by the week: every lease runs at least 90 days, every household needs a resident 55 or over, and each renter pays a registration fee. Howard Hanna keeps a separate line for its Sun City rentals, and Realty Management Advisors and Zenith Degree manage homes there too. The rules are on our Sun City rentals page.
Before You Sign a Lease in Bluffton
Expect an application fee, a security deposit and a twelve-month lease as the usual terms, and ask what the rent includes: water, trash, lawn care and pest control are sometimes the tenant’s. Ask for a written move-in inspection with photos, and walk the home with the manager when you leave. Get renter’s insurance that covers wind, ask whether the home sits in a flood zone, and know your evacuation route.
For a stay of days or weeks rather than a lease, see Bluffton vacation rentals. On the island itself, our Hilton Head long term rentals page lists the island’s managers. To buy instead, see Bluffton real estate.
