New Riverside Barn Park is the newest of the big Bluffton parks, and the one children ask to go back to. The 37 acres sit at the May River Road and Okatie Highway traffic circle, where the red barn is a landmark for anyone driving through. The Town of Bluffton bought the land from Palmetto Bluff in 2018 and has been building the park in phases.
The Playground
The first phase is a playground of about 1.7 acres. It has an 82-foot zip line, rope-climbing structures joined by a rope bridge, slides, swings that include parent-and-child seats, parkour elements and balance stilts, on a cushioned surface. Shade structures and a covered pergola with restrooms and water fountains make it workable in summer heat. The playground is open from sunrise to sunset.
Trails and the Barn
Public trails run through the rest of the park. The Town’s plan for the red barn is to renovate and expand it for private and community events, so check with the Town of Bluffton before counting on it for a booking.
Getting There
The park is at 30 Red Barn Drive, off the traffic circle on the west side of Bluffton, toward Okatie. It is a longer drive from Old Town than the riverfront parks, so pair it with a meal in Bluffton dining.
