The Bluffton Gullah Cultural Heritage Center is a nonprofit museum of Gullah Geechee history, art and culture at 1255 May River Road, at the edge of Old Town Bluffton. It opened in 2021 and sits on the grounds of Ma Daisy’s Porch, the Gullah food and culture destination built around a family homeplace, so a visit pairs easily with a meal.

What You’ll See

The center keeps permanent exhibits on the Gullah people of the Lowcountry, the descendants of enslaved West Africans whose language, food, faith and crafts took root on the Sea Islands, alongside traveling and featured shows that change through the year. Visitors call it small and full of history and artifacts, with art for sale on the porch. Guided tours are available on request and can be shaped to a group; staff and volunteers help visitors with mobility, vision or hearing needs.

Hours and Visiting

The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with last entry at 4 p.m.; it is closed Sunday and on several holidays, including Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Juneteenth and August 23. Passes can be reserved ahead on its website, and accessible parking is by the entrance.
