This is the original Hilton Head Social Bakery, on the harbour side of Shelter Cove at 17 Harbourside Lane, Building 1, a few steps from the marina. It is a French bakery owned by Chef Philippe Feret, who was a pastry chef at Taillevent in Paris and worked in New York at Windows on the World, Tavern on the Green and the Regency Hotel, and everything is made from scratch each day. The bakery’s second shop is Hilton Head Social Bakery South, on William Hilton Parkway.

Mornings are for croissants, chocolate croissants, brioche and the caramelized kouign-amann, with muffins, turnovers and scones. The case also holds fruit tarts and a chocolate tart, mousse cakes, cheesecake and tiramisu that reviewers call hard to find elsewhere on the island, and there is quiche and other lunch food all day. Specialty cakes are made to order in flavors such as chocolate pistachio, hazelnut, salted caramel and strawberries and cream. For gluten-free guests there are raspberry and chocolate macaron cakes and the Chocolate Bluff. The coffee gets its own praise.
