Tradewinds Trace is a gated group of 28 Mediterranean-style townhomes at 20 Tradewinds Trace, where Shelter Cove Lane meets Chamber of Commerce Drive on Hilton Head Island, a short walk from Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina and across the street from the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. Listings also call it Tradewinds Villas.
It is on our list of Shelter Cove rentals, but the association restricts short stays, so it is mostly a place to own. For a week’s vacation, the villa buildings on the harbour are the easier booking.
The Townhomes
Every townhome has three bedrooms and three and a half baths over three floors, built in 2006. The ground floor holds the garage and, in most, a guest suite with its own bath; the living floor opens onto a screened porch; the primary suite is on top. Each was built with a shaft for a private elevator, and many owners have put one in.
Pool and Setting
The townhomes are grouped around a central courtyard with a pool and spa. The harbour and marina, the Towne Centre with Kroger, and the Arts Center are all a few minutes on foot.
Renting at Tradewinds Trace
The association restricts short-term rentals, and the sources we checked disagree on the details, so do not count on booking a week here. Confirm the current rental rules with the association before you rent or buy with rental income in mind.
Owning at Tradewinds Trace
Owners pay one association fee that covers the grounds, the building exteriors, pest control, cable, water, sewer and trash, plus the Palmetto Dunes property owners’ fee, which brings the Palmetto Dunes beach, golf and tennis and the seasonal Dunes Buggy shuttle.
