The Rooftop Bar is the second floor of Poseidon at 38 Shelter Cove Lane in Shelter Cove Towne Centre, and it is mid-island Hilton Head’s liveliest nightspot. Same owners, same phone and the same kitchen as the restaurant downstairs, but its own entrance, its own hours and a calendar of shows. It calls itself an entertainment and celebration venue, and that is the right way to think about it: come for the music and the sunset, and eat if you want to.

Music, Dancing and Dueling Pianos
The bar’s own site lists it as open Wednesday to Saturday from 4 p.m. until late, under the line “Weekends start on Wednesdays.” The calendar mixes a dueling pianos show (bring cash if you want to request a song), DJ dance parties, coastal country line dancing, themed parties and touring bands. Summer can add nights, so check the entertainment calendar on the bar’s website before you plan an evening around a particular act. A sunset happy hour opens the evening.
What the Room Is Like
Despite the name, most of the space is indoors: a large air-conditioned lounge around a circular bar, with a stage, booths and floor-to-ceiling garage-style windows that open up in good weather. A wraparound balcony gives the outdoor seats, and the sunset view over the park toward Broad Creek is the reason to arrive before dusk. On a full night the bar gets crowded and drinks can be slow, so a table for a group is worth arranging ahead.

There is no separate kitchen menu: you order from Poseidon’s, so the raw bar, sushi, crab dip and duck wings all come upstairs.
