Coastal Carolina Medical Center, Formerly Coastal Carolina Hospital
Novant Health Coastal Carolina Medical Center is a 41-bed hospital at 1000 Medical Center Drive in Hardeeville, by US 278 and I-95. It opened in November 2004 as Coastal Carolina Hospital, and that is still the name most people use. Novant Health bought it from Tenet Healthcare in February 2024, together with Hilton Head Medical Center on the island, so the two are sister hospitals. Coastal Carolina Hospital and Coastal Carolina Medical Center are the same building.
The Emergency Room and What It Treats
The emergency room is open 24 hours a day, every day. Novant lists emergency services, imaging, surgery, stroke care, maternity, women’s health, rehabilitation and wound care here, and notes that a treatment in one of those categories may be offered only at another Novant location, so call before you drive for anything that is not an emergency. For a heart attack, stroke or serious injury, call 911 and let the ambulance crew choose the hospital.
The island has its own hospital, Hilton Head Medical Center, with the island’s only ER, and it is the closer one for nearly everyone staying on Hilton Head.
