The Palmetto Dunes General Store is the resort’s everyday stop at 1 Trent Jones Lane: coffee at 5 a.m., a weekday breakfast and lunch counter, a grocery shelf, and everything you forget to pack for the beach. It has been here since 1979, and unlike most of the gated community it does not need a pass to reach.
What the General Store Serves
The kitchen runs Monday to Friday, with breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The two things the store is known for are its fried chicken and its cinnamon rolls, and it lists awards for best fried chicken and best general store on the island. There is fresh coffee and hot tea all day, and outdoor seating for eating on the spot. If you are feeding a group, the store asks you to call ahead for orders of more than eight meals.
What to Buy at the General Store
The shelves cover the basics for a rental week: groceries, beer and wine (including local Southern Barrel Co. beer), ice cream and candy, sunscreen, Hilton Head apparel and beach essentials. It is the closest place to grab what a villa kitchen is missing without driving off the property.

It sits within walking distance of the beach, the tennis and pickleball center and the golf courses, so it works as a stop on the way to any of them.
