About Roebling Road Raceway
Roebling Road Raceway is a 2.02-mile asphalt road course in Bloomingdale, Georgia, just west of Savannah and about 50 miles from Hilton Head. The track is 33 feet wide, with nine corners on the main course and 12 when the front-straight chicane is in use. It isn’t a spectator track: clubs and driving schools book it for track days, races and testing, and only their drivers, crews and guests get in.
How to Drive Roebling Road
You sign up with a club or group that has the track booked. On a track day (also called driver education or HPDE) you bring a safe street car, a few safety items and a good attitude, and an instructor rides with you until you’re ready to drive on your own. Passing is allowed only in set zones, with a point-by, so the risk stays low.
The Porsche Club of America’s Coastal Empire Region, which covers Hilton Head and Savannah, holds driver education days here, as do the club’s Florida Citrus and Florida Crown regions, Hooked on Driving, Just Track It and the National Auto Sport Association. The dates are in the calendar below.
For wheel-to-wheel racing, the Sports Car Club of America’s Buccaneer Region holds a drivers school here once a year (bring a club-racing-legal car or rent one), and licensed racers race with NASA’s Southeast Region, the Porsche Club and the SCCA. The SCCA also runs Solo autocross events at the track.
Facilities and Camping
The paddock covers 60 acres, with paved roads and security lighting. There are 12 open-air garages with power (you can rent one), a covered tech inspection area with four-wheel scales, a three-story control tower, a classroom and a concession stand with covered seating. Emergency medical technicians, an ambulance and a fire truck are on site at every event. Fuel comes in 5-gallon pails, 98 unleaded or 110 leaded, and the pump takes credit cards only.
Camping is allowed when the host club permits it. Sites are first come, first served: $25 a night for an RV or trailer with 30- or 50-amp power and $10 a day for a tent, with hot showers but no dump station. Bring a generator, since power isn’t guaranteed. Children are welcome once a parent signs a minor waiver.
Getting There from Hilton Head
The drive is about 50 miles: about an hour and a half from mid-island, or an hour and 10 minutes from Bluffton. The host club sets the gate hours, so leave early for a morning start. On a weekday the track is often booked for private testing, so call before you drive over just to look around. Savannah is on the way home: see our Savannah day trip for the rest of the day.
