Folly Field Beach Park sits at the northeastern end of Hilton Head’s public beaches, off Folly Field Road on Starfish Drive, near where the island meets Port Royal Plantation. A boardwalk winds through natural dune growth down to the sand, and the beach itself draws a steadier, more residential-feeling crowd than Coligny Beach Park a few miles south. The nearest full-amenity park still open is Driessen Beach Park on Bradley Beach Road, mid-island.
About Folly Field Beach Park
Folly Field Beach Park is one of Hilton Head Island’s seven town-designated beach parks, and the one furthest from Coligny Circle’s shops and restaurants. That distance is the draw for a lot of visitors: fewer crowds, a slower pace, and a beach that feels more like the surrounding Folly Field neighborhood than a tourist destination. It’s a reasonable trade if you’d rather skip the crowds — Coligny still has more built-out amenities and shops, but Folly Field has more room to yourself.
Amenities at Folly Field Beach Park
At the beach entrance, Folly Field Beach Park has restrooms, outdoor showers, a vending machine, and a water fountain. A wheelchair-accessible boardwalk with beach matting carries you from the parking area down to the sand, and lifeguards are on duty during the main summer season. The Town also lists seasonal beach rentals here, and a free beach wheelchair you can reserve ahead of a visit (two are stationed at this park).
Parking at Folly Field Beach Park
Folly Field has 51 paid parking spaces, 3 of them ADA, which makes it one of the smaller lots among the town’s beach parks. Payment is through the Town’s parking app on your phone; cash is no longer accepted. Parking is $3 an hour on weekdays and $5 an hour on weekends during the paid season, and free for residents with a beach parking permit. With a lot this size, arrive early on busy days or walk over from a nearby rental if you can.
Activities and Attractions at Folly Field Beach Park
There aren’t built-in attractions here the way there are at Coligny — this park’s main activities are swimming, long walks, and beach games on wide, clean sand, with calm enough surf for wading. Few enough people show up most days that a spot near the boardwalk is usually easy to find. Seasonal chair and umbrella rentals are available, per the Town, or bring your own.

Driessen Beach Park, a short drive south on Bradley Beach Road, has the same style of permit parking plus a playground and picnic pavilion. Islanders Beach Park is even closer — a few minutes away on the same Folly Field Road — but it’s closed for site improvements through May 2027.
