Melrose Oyster House (Closed)
The Melrose Oyster House, the raw bar and restaurant in the beach club at Melrose on Daufuskie Island, has closed, and Google now lists it as permanently closed. It served oysters from a rotating list of farms, seafood towers, crab cakes and prime rib in the old beach club building at 175 Avenue of Oaks, on the site of the Melrose plantation, with a porch looking out over Calibogue Sound toward the Atlantic.
What Is at Melrose Now
The building is now Corakko Beach Club at Melrose. Corakko Beach LLC bought the Melrose property in December 2023, and the club opened its pools and gym in the spring of 2026, with pickleball, volleyball and basketball courts sold as memberships. It has been serving food since the summer of 2026, from burgers and fried seafood to shrimp cocktail and sweet potato tots. Check the club’s own social pages before you ride over to eat: its hours are still settling, and some of it is for members.
For a sure meal at Melrose, The Sportsman at Melrose is up the same road, Avenue of Oaks. It is a family pub with burgers, wings, subs and pizza, open every day but Wednesday.

Oysters on the half shell, by the half dozen or dozen, are on the menu at the Old Daufuskie Crab Company at Freeport Marina, which also roasts oysters in season.
