Get directionsDaufuskie Distillery and the On Deck Diner
Daufuskie Island Distillery is the island’s only distillery, in a big blue barn on Haig Point Road with a covered deck, a pond and a kitchen called the On Deck Diner. The Daufuskie distillery makes small-batch rum and vodka, with a tequila and a bourbon alongside, and pours them in cocktails, neat or on the rocks, Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Daufuskie Island Distillery Menu
Daufuskie Rum and Vodka
The rums are the draw, from the dark rum that goes into the house cocktails to others such as Kona, poured alongside the vodkas. The easiest way in is a flight of three small pours, which comes at a few price points; visitors single out the Kona rum and the blueberry lavender vodka. Bottles, glassware and T-shirts are for sale to take home, and the spirits are sold in shops on the mainland too.
Tastings at the Daufuskie Island Rum Company
The business trades as the Daufuskie Island Rum Company, and you do not need to book a tasting: walk in, order a flight or a cocktail at the bar and take it out to the deck. The pond across the way usually has an alligator or two in it. Leashed dogs are welcome outside, and there is parking for golf carts by the barn.
The On Deck Diner
Lunch comes from the On Deck Diner, Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and you can order ahead online for pickup. The menu rotates, running from shrimp gumbo and Greek salads to a Philly cheesesteak that visitors recommend. Beth Shipman, who owned Marshside Mama’s, the island restaurant that closed in 2018, has also cooked Wednesday-night dinners here that need booking; call (843) 342-4786 to ask whether one is on.
Finding the Distillery
The distillery is at 270 Haig Point Road, and like everything on Daufuskie you reach it by golf cart, from the public ferry at Melrose Landing or the boats at Freeport Marina (our Daufuskie Island ferry guide has both). It is closed on Sundays and Mondays and on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and closes at midday on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. For lunch or dinner elsewhere on the island, see our Daufuskie Island restaurants page; the history of Daufuskie Island covers the plantations and oyster years around it, and our Daufuskie Island guide has the rest.
