South Beach — sometimes called South Beach Marina, South Beach Village, or just South Beach HHI (short for Hilton Head Island, the abbreviation locals and other visitors both use) — is the low-key waterfront corner of Sea Pines Plantation, tucked at the island’s southern tip on Braddock’s Cove and Calibogue Sound. It’s a New England-style marina village built around boat slips, a handful of restaurants and shops, and a tennis and pickleball club, with the ocean beach itself a short walk away. It’s a different spot from Sea Pines Beach Club, the resort’s main oceanfront day facility elsewhere in Sea Pines — South Beach is its own neighborhood, built around the marina rather than a beach pavilion.

Getting to South Beach

South Beach sits inside Sea Pines Plantation, so getting there by car means paying Sea Pines’ visitor gate fee — $10 per day for a standard two-axle vehicle as of March 1, 2026, payable by cash or card at either the main Greenwood Drive gate or the Ocean Gate off Cordillo Parkway, both open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Property owners, resort guests, and anyone with a Sea Pines rental reservation skip the fee. Once inside, South Beach is also reachable by bike or on foot along Sea Pines’ leisure-path network if you’re already staying in the plantation.

Shops and Restaurants at South Beach Marina

The marina village is best known for Salty Dog Cafe, but it’s not the only place to eat — Land’s End Tavern, The Wreck of the Salty Dog overlooking Braddock’s Cove, Kiwi’s Island Grill, and Jake’s Pizza are all a short walk apart, along with Salty Dog Ice Cream. For shopping, the marina has the Salty Dog T-Shirt Shop, Blue Water Bait & Tackle, and Jake’s Cargo. Boat, kayak, and jet ski rentals, deep-sea fishing charters, and Calibogue Sound nature tours all run out of the marina docks as well.

South Beach Racquet Club

South Beach Racquet Club, at 230 S. Sea Pines Drive, has been part of the neighborhood since 1986 — 13 Har-Tru clay courts plus dedicated pickleball courts, about 300 yards from the marina. You don’t need to be a Sea Pines property owner or resort guest to book a court; the club takes outside players.

Staying at South Beach

A handful of Sea Pines rental communities cluster around the marina, including South Beach Villas and the South Beach Club high-rises overlooking Calibogue Sound and the Atlantic, plus South Beach Inn right at the marina itself. All put the shops, restaurants, and racquet club within an easy walk, and the beach itself just beyond that.
